Grim Reality, The Fallacy of
The assumption that good things, such as communities where people talk to each other and help each other, are either fantasy (when proposed for the future), or nostalgia (when described as the past).
Grimness lends plausibility: if the effects of a proposed new regulation are grim and joyless enough, that is proof that it is really necessary.
